Ocean between beauty and cruelty
hard to believe that the upper scene looses within the sudden its calmness, beautiful turquoise, it's peacefulness. It happened on the 31st of August 2015 when hurricane "Fred" took over control of the scene. You will hardly find any kind of notice about this severe storm devastating the islands of Boa Vista and Sal (Kap Verdan) in the media ... it seems like this part of the world is "forgotten".
I witnessed these terrifying hours on Boa Vista ... will never forget. I am still digesting these experiences - but all in all my respect towards the ocean - nature - has increased dramatically. Unfortunatelly human beeings have the power to destroy all - but we are nothing compared to the power of nature. In a certain way I am thankful for these dramatic experiences.
Amazing how much time it actually took - many many weeks - that the well known green-blue-turquoise colour range of the water returned from the stage of brownish-black roaring waves filled with dirt, killed animals, garbage, plastik waste... a vomitting Atlantic Ocean.
Winter 2015 I started working on series of paintings expressing exactly the dramatic change of ocean environment - discovering the beauty within the distructive scene. Have a look at the painting process - and some details.
More of this is in process.
